Summer Friday with Livvie Smalls
We reached out to our friend, cannabis educator, chef, and content creator Livvie Smalls for the latest edition of Summer Friday's. Livvie is on a mission to help people develop a clearer understanding of Cannabis as a plant and industry through her work.
Beyond her work in cannabis, Livvie doesn't take shit! She's an avid activist and fights for women in the Cannabis Industry, take her #TimesUp fight with MindRite for example.
Livvie has also written an e-book "Smart Infusion", out now on here website and available through Kindle. So you can see why we're excited to get into it.
Books You're Reading This Summer:
Since I'm consuming so much media for my digital activism I have been reading books that are more on the fiction side to give my brain a little bit of a break. I have been reading Namedropper it is a novel that is my summer go to and The Stand by Stephen King
Songs on Your Summer Soundtrack:
I actually make strain playlist on my @Livviesmalls Spotify account that go along with the first hour of your high of certain strains. So lately I've been smoking Tangie and listening to my Tangie playlist.
Favorite Anti-Racist Resources
Right now I have a lot of favorites because I'm constantly pulling information. I think that Cannaclusive is great and what they're doing with their list and database is impressive. But I love accounts like Times Up & ACLU/ACLU Oregon to keep up with legal activism as well.
What has anti-racism looked like for you?
Well, I am a woman of color who has experienced racially motivated hate crimes but I also was raised by a white woman in the south. So my experiences with racism are truly all across the board. On an internal / personalized level I have really had to unravel some beliefs and ways of thinking that were tied to internalized racism and misogyny which is tough to face. And on an Outreach level it has been everything from cyberbullying my mayor to fire white supremacists that are tied to our police Bureau, to educating brands and friends on how to do better and turning my Instagram page to a info source. Racism is tied to every aspect of our lives. From racist brands in our refrigerator to racism in healthcare and everywhere in between. we are all working to not only acknowledge but figure out ways to unravel the racism that's been woven into our daily lives. So I think there are learning points that can be made almost every minute of the day for all of us and I'm trying to lend my voice to those points that I'm passionate about or that I'm a little bit more knowledgeable about because of my experiences with racism anywhere that I can.
When not social distancing, what is your favorite travel destination?
Outdoor cannabis farms in summer are usually magical and where i want to be.
Summer Cannabis Rituals
Ice in my bong and I add mint leaves to my spliff mix for cooling hits.
Thing You're Missing Most in this Post-COVID Summer?
Going to the river with friends and hosting dining adventures.
Favorite Summer Activity?
One of my best purchases during quarantine was a trampoline. Jumping on a trampoline definitely affects your mind and your body in different ways and was a total Lifesaver while my gym has been closed down
